KAYLA MCBRIDE OWNS WNBA HISTORY!
LYNX ALL-STAR SET RECORD FOR MOST THREE-POINTERS MADE

In a national TV matchup headlined by young, generational superstars, Kayla McBride stole the show.
On August 9, the Minnesota Lynx hosted the Dallas Wings on NBC. The Lynx were coming off of an afternoon victory against the Las Vegas Aces the day before at home and playing their third game in four days. The WNBA schedule is starting to take its toll on teams, but on this day, McBride was able to power through and had the game of her life.
McBride scored a career high 43 points and made a WNBA record ten three pointers in the Lynx’s victory over the Dallas Wings. McBride started a bit slowly as she scored just four points in the first quarter. However, she started finding the groove in the second quarter and never looked back as she was able to score everywhere on the court and against every defender the Wings had.
After her historic game, she needed to take a moment while basking in the love of the 14,000+ fans at a raucous Target Center
"Minneapolis has become home for me and I want to give my best," McBride said. "Whether the ball goes in or doesn't, I just feel so much love. I think that's why I can come out here and do my thing. I feel so loved and appreciated for who I am and I just love the game. I want to win. So I'm grateful for these fans, this organization. I'm just overcome with joy, and when I have opportunities like that I want to give it back."
The Lynx remain atop the WNBA standings and officially became the first team to clinch a spot in the postseason. As they gear up for the stretch run, the goal is to secure homecourt advantage throughout the entire playoffs.
It was an amazing day for Kayla McBride. She put on the show of a lifetime with the whole world watching. She’s been essential to the Lynx’s success and will be essential if they wish to capture their first WNBA Championship since 2017. A game like this will live on forever and etch McBride’s place in basketball history.

🏀 ALYSSA THOMAS HONORED BY THE CONNECTICUT SUN
"MY JOURNEY WASN'T EASY." 11 SEASONS LATER, THE SUN GIVE A.T HER FLOWERS.

Alyssa Thomas’ name is officially written into Connecticut history.
Prior to the Phoenix Mercury’s game against the Connecticut Sun on August 7, the Sun honored their franchise stalwart. Earlier in the season, the team honored Jonquel Jones as part of the Sun-set season. This time, Thomas was the special recipient and reflected on the path to stardom she had to take.
“For me, my journey wasn’t easy to get to this point,” Thomas said. “I had to work really hard, and I think we had a lot of players that were underrated and they found their way and now watching them conquer the league as well. I think the fans just appreciate how I approach the game and how hard I’ve played each and every night. I just wanted them to see that I left it out there each and every night.”
AT led the Sun in a variety of categories across her 11 years in Uncasville and was instrumental in the team making it to the WNBA Finals in 2019 and 2022. Although the Sun couldn’t get over that Final hurdle, Thomas’ excellence kept them in contention for many years and gave the fans plenty of great memories.
Thomas is one of the great players in Sun history. She played through an assortment of injuries and has a toughness and grit that endeared herself to the Connecticut faithful and made her one of the great players in league history. As we say goodbye to the Sun, the memories Thomas and others provided will last forever.

💰 MONEY MOVES
THE ACES RESTED THEIR BIG THREE. LOST BY 40. BECKY HAMMON HAS NO APOLOGIES.

As the Las Vegas Aces look for their fourth WNBA championship this decade, the arduous WNBA schedule is starting to take its toll.
On August 9, the Aces were in Brooklyn to face the Liberty. The afternoon before, the Aces were in Minneapolis to take on the league leading Lynx. The game on Saturday started at 1 PM EST while the game on Sunday started at 12:30 PM EST.
With this being an earlier start time, the second half of a back-to-back, third game in four days, and the last leg of a cross country five game road trip, the Aces rested A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young, and Chelsea Gray. It went as you would expect and the champs lost by 40 points.
Prior to the game, Hammon shared why the team decided to rest their big stars. Hammon, who served as an assistant in the NBA prior to becoming Aces head coach, noted that they didn’t have back-to-backs that were less than 24 hours apart like it was here. Beyond that, the arduousness of the road trip put them in an especially precarious position.
“Not going to put them in any kind of jeopardy to get hurt when we’ve been expending a lot of energy and traveling a lot of miles back and forth, crisscrossing the country,” Hammon said. So, it is what it is. I know these are big matchups, and these are what people want to see. But you should ensure that it’s fair.”
At the WBB Roundup, we’ve been discussing the expanding WNBA schedule and the toll it’s taking. More games with less time to rest in between is a recipe for trouble for players and lessens the experience for fans.
There’s more money coming in to the WNBA, but they have to figure out how to strike the balance between getting as much money as possible while ensuring the workforce doesn’t burn out first.
